I’ve had the honor of taking the official Penn State Marching Blue Band portraits for the past 14 years and it’s truly a unique and special experience. It’s hard to describe the feeling of stepping into an empty Beaver Stadium on a late summer day—just before football season kicks off—to photograph one of the best college marching bands in the nation.
The stadium is so powerful, even when the seats are empty, and when the 300-piece band enters and performs their sound check, I’m blown away! It’s always a fun day and I love the opportunity to catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the camaraderie and teamwork between this incredibly talented group of artists.
With 119 years of tradition, the Blue Band is an integral part of creating the legendary Penn State game-day experience—entertaining and energizing hundreds of thousands of Nittany Lion fans each year. Their musical and marching precision are unmatched and the band’s quality continues to increase under the exceptional leadership of director Gregory Drane.
Thanks to the Blue band members, staff, and my assistant Kristina Brownshire for a truly memorable day! WE ARE…grateful for your talent, dedication and all you do for Penn State!
